Marjorie Franklin (nee Harper, previously McIntyre) was a character who was on the ONtv series, Harpers Falls. She was originated by Bea Arthur, best known for her roles on Maude and the Golden Girls. However, after Bea's death from cancer, the late Marcia Wallace, best known for her roles on the Bob Newhart Show and her voice work on The Simpsons, took over the role and played it through the original series end.
The sister of the late Richard Harper, Marjorie was always considered to be the most fun loving and off the beaten path of their generation. While Richard was more sedate, and worked with growing the boarding school; Marjorie was one of the first women who became well-versed at selling real estate!
Despite her success at real estate, she took time out to be married. Her first marriage with Fred McIntyre produced a daughter named Astrid. After Fred's death, she married a second time to an Arthur Donohue, and had a son named Shane, Arthur also died. Her third marriage was to a Harold Franklin, whom neither Shane or Astrid trusted, and it was a relief to both siblings when he died.
Marjorie showed her success at selling real estate, being one of the best agents in the entire Northeast. After Richard's death, she often came over to the Harper Estate, making sure that her brother's family was doing all right.
After Michael and the rest of his family moved to Pennsylvania, Marjorie continued to sell real estate until her death from cancer. Sadly, Marjorie never got a chance to even meet her grandson, Astrid's son, Michael Barrington. Shane grew up to be a stockbroker, but later eschewed that career and became a yoga instructor.
