Marge is the sister of Matthew, Anne, William and Denise Abbott, and was close to her family, although she could be very adventurous, which would explain her move to Canada.

Aside from that, little, if anything is known about her early life, except for a long-time marriage to a man named Atherton. They were married until his passing.

A broadcasting major in college, Marge has done video editing for a good deal of her life. After her husband died especially, she threw herself in her work.

A lot of times, her life is centered around her work, which she always finds rewarding.  Marge is a warm-hearted and caring woman, who, besides her continuous work, is accessible and human to those she loves and cares about.

She spent a good part of her life working as a video editor at CTLS-TV in Toronto, Canada.  She quit twice in her career, due to the changing of hands of the station.  During her second stint as video editor, she became close friends with newcomer, Jacqueline Haller, who had been hired as a reporter.

To Jacqueline's surprise, when she returned to Boston, Marge had accompanied her and her family.  After former station manager, Kyle Copeland, Marge's nemesis, sold the station to a conservative think tank, and thereby firing everyone, Marge had heard from Craig Atchley, who had heard about CTLS's situation, and instantly hired her as the news department's video editor, a job she adored.

She currently lives with her sponsor for citizenship, Astrid McIntyre and her friend Alexandra Chadwick.  She also bonded well with Astrid's son, Mikey.

Much later, it was revealed to a thunderstruck Jacqueline that she was her maternal grandfather's sister, and thereby her aunt.  Jacqueline was at first taken aback by it, but later embraced her as her aunt.

Marge also welcomed her new niece, Lyla Ann Amherst, (her brother, Matthew, was also Lyla Ann's father). Recently, she also regained contact with her sister, Anne's children, Ben and his older sister, Allegra. For Marge Atherton, she truly has come home to family.
