Anna Reed (nee O'Sullivan) was a character on the ONtv series, Harpers Falls. She was played by Emmy and Tony Award winning actress, Helen Gallagher, best known for her role of Ryan matriarch, Maeve Ryan on Ryan's Hope.
Beloved housekeeper[]
Little if anything is known of Anna O'Sullivan's life, before she had married a man named Frank Reed, with whom she had a son named James and a daughter, Wilhelmina. Anna was a gentle but very firm Irish matriarch, who loved her family dearly, and family meant everything to her.
James had married Sheylene Tremaine, a free-spirited poet and actress, and the family had a beautiful daughter named Emily, whom Anna adored with all her heart. To her, Emily was the spitting image of her dad, and she was indeed the apple of her grandma's eye. Anna was proud when her Emily grew up into a beautiful young woman.
After her maternal Grandmother, Laurel Tremaine, passed away, Anna came to town to help take over the housekeeping duties (Laurel was the Harper family's long-time housekeeper), and to become close to her granddaughter and her son, James.
Some years later, James moved on to Portland, Maine, with Emily going on to college in Waterville, Maine; and Wilhelmina moving to nearby Ogunquit to keep an eye on the others.
Anna lived to a ripe old age, and found out she had cancer of the liver. She died in 2012, with her family around her, in Massachusetts General Hospital.
The Harpers, in remembrance of her many years of service that her family had given to them, sent a floral arrangement, and helped her beloved Emily with her college education.
